How do I get rid of the acne scars – hyperpigmentation? I am African-American and I have had acne issues since I was 13. I am looking for a product or proceedure that will help lighten the dark spots on my face. Ive tried Ambi, and it doesn’t work. I’ve heard of lemon juice and shea butter. Can any one give me suggestions of products or proceedures that REALLY have worked for someone with my same problem?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Chasie replied: "I would go to a dermotologist they will give you a perscription that will most likely work."

sarah n replied: "i heard ACV is great (apple cider vinegar) combine it with 50% water and 50% ACV .. and a few drops of pure lemon juice if you want. apply it at night with a cotton ball or something like that."

Karen replied: "Well, I’m a pasty white girl, but my esthetician is African-American. I broke out at age 10, and went through accutane at age 24. That kept me clear for three years, and then I broke back out. I did extensive research for products that work. I ended up trying glytone, which my friend’s dermatologist recommended for her. It is formulated with glycolic acid.

Tonya, my esthetician (someone who gives facials ect…) works at a spa that uses Jan Marini products. I use their daily protectant spf 30, and it is the best stuff I have ever put on my skin. Even though your complection is dark, you can still get skin cancer and age, so definately protect your precious face with a sunscreen.

The Jan Marini line is also formulated with glycolic acid. I have read on the glytone website that it isn’t for dark complections, but Tonya I know uses the Jan Marini line.

Glytone has completely transformed my skin! It cleared up in one week and never broke out again. It has dramatically gotten rid of scars. My skin looks amazing.

I would consult a dermatologist and ask if glycolic acid is an option. Tonya did have medium to light skin (which was georgous). If you can use glycolic products, then you are in for the transformation of your life!!! I hope that this helps. If it ends up that glycolic acid is not an option, then I’m sure a dermatologist will be able to give you something that will be effective. Do some online research about dark complections and glycolic acid.

Good Luck!!!"

What chemical acid peel is best for moderate acne scars and hyperpigmentation? I was looking up at home chemical peels and there are all sorts of different acids to choose from like glycolic, lactic, and salicylic. I will be doing the peels on my lower back where my acne scars are. I don’t care about pain or discomfort I just want whatever will work best and fastest.

ROBERTO M replied: "I suggest you professional-strength chemical peels for the face and body for all skin types anin all strengths, from 10%, 15%, 35%, 40% and up. These products are made by the finest FDA-approved laboratories with high-quality ingredients.

lmarida79 replied: "The results of TCA peel are frequently less dramatic than and not as long lasting as those of a phenol peel. In fact, more than one TCA peel may be desirable to realize the most wanted result. The improvement from a TCA peel is usually shorter than with a phenol peel. Phenol is the strongest of the chemical liquid and makes a profound peel. It is used mostly to take care of patients with coarse facial wrinkles, areas of blemished or damaged skin caused by sun exposure or precancerous growths. Because phenol sometimes lightens the treated areas, your skin pigmentation may be a determining factor as to whether or not this is an appropriate treatment for you. Microdermbrasion for acne scars/hyperpigmentation? i am 18 y.o. and i am planning to go to a clinical center for 10 sessions of microdermabrasion. I was wondering if that will help my acne scars. The scars are not that deep, but the scars are red and make my skin look discolored.

Rockford replied: "I had 10 sessions of dermabrasion (not micro) and chemical peel treatments to get rid of deep stretch marks. The skin look red and raw and worse for six months and I got depressed, but it eventually healed looking better than before with no discoloration. Doing the chemical peals at the same time as the dermabrasion was absolutely the wrong thing to do. I also worked at a steel foundry and had to stand in front of a 3000 degree furnace and it totally inflamed my skin. If your just get getting microdermabrasion, expect some some discoloration that will heal within 6 months at the most. Its smart to to it now instead of the summer. Never do it in the summer."

Does Proactive help to clear up Hyperpigmentation (acne scars)? I am using Proactive right now, (have been using it for about 2 weeks) and I was wondering if it helps reduce the look of acne scars/hyperpigmentation?
I also have Bio-oil, but i havnt used that in a while,
is there anything else?
i have an Aloe Vera plant, but I dont know the ‘procedure’ of how long or how much i should put on my face.
Does Aloe Vera even help?
I was also wondering, how long would it take to show noticeable results with the products?
I have very sensitive skin by the way.
Thank you so much! :)

P.S. if there is anything home made I would greatly appreciate it, I dont have much money to give to this ’cause’. Thanks :)

Bri replied: "a very good thing to wash your face with it dove bar soap i went to my doctor about the same problem and they told me the best thing to wash your face with is dove bar soap. Also if yo ca go to the doctor ask for them to prescribe you to benzaclin it is very good to help it did not cost me anything but that depends on your insurance but it can dry your skin out and make it itchy but all you need to do it apply moisturizer a few times a day to your face."

SugarBunny replied: "i find the proactive face wash is very dry. so when i put face lotion on, my face stings. the scrub didnt improve a lot but it did kinda tone the gressiness down but that what pretty much all of the face wash do. i only use the toner now but even with the whole line of products, it didn treduce any scars.
but i found the neutrogena rapid fast foaming face wash is incredible. i never broke out yet. my bro has worse acne than me cuz our family genes is having oily skin and after 2 weeks his cheeks were pimple free. so im guessing the next 2-3 more weeks his whole face will be clear. i didn t see any scars but my bro doesnt pick and touch them so im not sure it actuallly gets rid of discolouration."

Use any oil, but the best for acne prone skins are almond, grape seed or olive – used by skin specialists for clearing up acne. They do not clog, cause breakouts and they lessen skin’s oil production. Buy sweet almond and grape seed at Walmart or Walgreens (Check online which stores have them.) GNC have a wide selection of oils.

First, tighten skin by opening mouth 3/4" and pulling lips firmly back against teeth. Then vigorously massage scars over and over many times – the rubbing friction simply rubs them away. Day by day build up to vigorous as first skin and also hands have to adjust. If build up to 20 to 30 minutes a day(not necessarily in one session) you will get quick results.
Massage must be forward and back not circular. Do with front and tips of fingers and sometimes front of entire hand depending where applying. There is a knack, but to give you an idea – massage from chin point with front of entire hand(use both hands together) up to cheek bones and back. In other areas you will do smaller sweeps using tips and front of fingers – in mouth areas for example.

Depending on how vigorous you do see diminishing in roughly 30 to 35 days. Then progress seems to quicken. Keep it up and you will rid skin of all scars, marks. Treatment rid my skin of every single one and also of every single spot and blemish and gave me a healthy, near flawless skin. It also tightened and firmed and gave skin a healthy glow.
Try it – you will be happy that you did!

i have terrible acne scars and hyperpigmentation. im using Retin A. Does it help clear the dark spots? please help im 23 yrs old and have terrible scars. my acne is not so bad

River Euphrates replied: "Unfortunately, I don’t think it will.

I used it for a short time, but I didn’t really have acne – just lots and lots of zits.

It really didn’t make any difference at all that I could tell. Popping ‘em and putting sea breeze (or rubbing alcohol) on them was the only thing that seemed to help control them (or at least get rid of the nastiest looking ones).

All the face washes, scrubs, and other crap – including prescription stuff like Retin-A didn’t do a damn thing.

Fortunately I grew out of most of it – although I will still break out occasionally."

Sabster replied: "Retin A is used to clear spots, if its not effective they should move you onto something called Roaccutane, if not its worth asking for. This is the tablet form of Retin A and is much stronger, so you’ll have to have your blood monitored. It usually works great but takes some time to kick in (4 weeks) .

After you’ve cleared up the acne, i believe that there is scar removing treatments avaiable through the NHS so ask the skin specialist when you go to have your routine check on how the Roaccutane is going .

Also there is also plenty private clinics that provide skin laser treatment which work amazingly to remove scars, but its quite expensive."

What treatment do you think is best for my type of acne scars/hyperpigmentation? [pic included]? I’ve had severe acne over the years and have finally gotten it under control and have been pretty clear for a couple of months.
However, I am left with these marks and there are so many options.
I thought I might ask you guys what you think I should look into. Chemical peels? Lasers? Any creams or masks you can suggest?
I do plan on going to a dermatologist for it but don’t know much. Im too worried to try OTC creams since it might start a flare up.
It’s basically the same on the other side.

iM YouRS ♥ replied: "Same here. I went to the dermatologist and he said that chemical peels are 1 of the best ways. Make sure when you go 2 ur dermatologist that you ask him these things!
